    Introduction

    Users may push various types of material or code from one WordPress instance to another through using SitePush staging. You’ll need to sign in to the website’s administrative dashboard to accomplish that. On the left-side menu, select SitePush, and then click SitePush.

    • Source:

    • Entire Database:

      Push all uploaded files from the uploads/ directory of your source website to the destination.

    The Push Content button will initiate the process. Keep in mind that the updates will overwrite all existing data on your destination website. This is the reason why we recommend the following steps when you are using the staging for WordPress:

    • Push all content from your main website to the staging copy.
    • Make all required changes to your staging copy.
    • Push all content from your staging copy to the main website.

    Enable cache plugins with WordPress staging

    The SitePush staging for WordPress allows automated purge of the cache on your website, so you do not need to perform that manually after each change. This is a good feature that will definitely save you time.

    When you install a caching plugin on your website, the SitePush staging will notify you that you need additional configuration so it could work normally. The message will say that you need to define the cache directory in the staging configuration file.

    What you need to do, is to access the staging configuration file on your account and define the cache directory properly in it. This will allow SitePush to clear the cache each time when you push changes.

    Open up the staging configuration file and add a new section, which will apply for all WordPress installations, configured with the staging plugin:

    caches[] = /home/example/public_html/path-to-cache-directory

    caches[] = /home/example/public_html/path-to-second-cache-directory

    The options available in the new section are:

    • [all]:

      This defines that the new section applies for all websites that you have configured with the staging plugin.

    • cache:

      States that your websites are using cache plugins.

    • caches[]:

      The path to the cache directory for one of the websites configured with a cache plugin. Note that you can define as many cache paths, as you have websites configured with the staging plugin.

    If the configuration of the caching plugin on your website is set properly. You will no longer see the warning message, once you log into the administrative area of your website.

    Custom push options

    By default, you are allowed to push certain type of content between your websites. However, there are custom plugins that create their own custom tables on your database. You will still be able to push those changes, by choosing the Entire Database push option.

    However, you will also be able to create a separate option, which will push the content for specific tables only. This is an excellent feature that allows you a full control over the Staging feature of your WordPress website.

    To configure custom tables push on your website, you will first have to log in as administrator. Click on the SitePush option on the left-side menu and then click on Options.

    You will have to scroll down to the Custom DB Table Groups section on the page. You will notice a field, where you can enter the custom database table. You will have to enter it with the following format:

    Field Label | table1, table2, table3

    The Field Label is the name that will be displayed for this new option in the SitePush screen, next to the other push options on the previous screenshot. The table* fields are for the actual tables that you will push content for.

    Once you are ready with the configuration, simply scroll down to the button and click on Save. The changes will be saved, so you can click on the SitePush option on the left-side menu again and then SitePush again. You will see the new option available in there.
