    HTML Headings

    Introduction

A title or subtitle that you wish to appear on the website may be described as an HTML heading or HTMLh tag. Whenever you insert text within the heading tags < h1>………< /h1>, it is shown in bold on the browser, and the size of the text is determined by the number of headings.

Headings aid in the definition of the hierarchy and organization of web page content.

HTML has six levels of heading tags, < h1> through < h6>; the lower the heading levels numbers, the higher the relevance — so, the < h1> tag specifies the most significant heading in the page, whilst the < h6> tag specifies the least interesting heading.

Browsers show heads in a bigger and bolder style than normal text by default. In addition, < h1> headings are presented in the biggest font size, whilst < h6> headings were published in the lowest font size.

When you insert a heading element on a web page, the built-in style sheets of the web browser produce some empty space (called margin) before and after each heading. To alter the browser’s default style sheet, utilize the CSS margin attribute.

    Example

    < !DOCTYPE html>
    < html>
    < body>
    	< h1>Heading 1< /h1>
    	< h2>Heading 2< /h2>
    	< h3>Heading 3< /h3>
    	< h4>Heading 4< /h4>
    	< h5>Heading 5< /h5>
    	< h6>Heading 6< /h6>
    < /body>
    < /html>

    Output

    Heading 1

    Heading 2

    Heading 3

    Heading 4

    Heading 5

    Heading 6

    Note:

When you insert a heading element on a web page, the built-in style sheets of the web browser produce some empty space (called margin) before and after each heading. To alter the browser’s default style sheet, utilize the CSS margin attribute.

    Importance of Heading

    • Because HTML headers provide essential information by identifying important subjects and the architecture of the content, they should be properly optimized to increase user engagement.
    • Avoid using headers to make your content appear BIG or bold. Use them simply to emphasize the title of your document and to display the structure of the text.
    • Because search engines like Google utilize headers to index the structure and content of web pages, use them sparingly on your website.
    • Use < h1> headings as the main headers of your web page, followed by < h2> headings, then < h3> headings, and so on.
